New Zealand is one of the most enviable countries in the world. So much so that we could say that the reality of its landscapes exceeds fantasy and science fiction. That is why it has been chosen to shoot so many movies and series, such as Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings.
The country of nature par excellence, thanks to its beautiful rivers, glaciers, geysers, volcanoes, green hills and turquoise blue lakes. A memory that will never disappear from your mind.
The recommended time to travel to this country is in spring or winter, and more specifically from November to April, which is when there is less chance of rain. The climatic conditions are usually moderate, since it is a country with many hours of sunshine, although there may be sudden changes in the same day.
Depending on the season in which you travel, you could take the opportunity to enjoy a panoramic flight over Mount Cook and its glaciers. In which you will see more than 200km of dreamlike landscapes, full of forests, snow, enormous glaciers and in the background the incredible Tasman Sea.
In this article we want to show you some of the places in New Zealand that you cannot miss if you choose this destination for your vacation. In addition, we will also recommend two luxury accommodations where you can rest with impressive views.
The first place we recommend you visit is Auckland, the heart of New Zealand and the capital of this country. You will be able to contemplate the views of the entire city and the islands that surround it from Mount Eden, the highest volcanic cone in the area.
The next place is the thermal city of Rotorua, known for its great geothermal activity. This city is full of places that are pure spectacle for the eyes. From a walk through Redwoods Treewalk, a place full of redwoods where you will walk at tree height throughout the forest, to the Te Puia hot springs, a space where you can sit and watch the < strong>spectacular geysers and boiling mud pools.
The third place that you should not miss in this country is the Tongariro National Park. In 1887 it was a gift from the Maori chief Te Heugeu Tukino IV to the New Zealand nation. A place surrounded by large volcanoes where its hot springs and turquoise or emerald lakes stand out, where you can go hiking or go skiing on some of its slopes. This park is declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. And it currently has three active volcanoes inside the park, one of which is Mount Tongariro, which has recently erupted.
If you want to do a tour by sea or air, we recommend that you go through the White Island or Whakaari Island. A small circular island, which is actually a volcano, located 48km off the east coast of New Zealand. This volcano is active and has had more than 35 eruptions since 1826.
One of our favorite places in this country, and one that you cannot miss, is the Fjords National Park. This park is made up of 14 fjords and was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is a dream place full of waterfalls, lakes and trails where you can go hiking and rest while watching the immensity of its landscapes. The Maori call it Te Wahipounamu, which means “land of the green stone”, since it is one of the places where most jade stone is found, a mineral that they adore in this country.
If during your stay you want to spot seals, whales, sea lions, albatrosses and penguins in their natural habitat or swim with dolphins, we recommend that you do not miss the coastal town of Kaikoura. It is located on the South Island of New Zealand, between the Seaward Kaikoura Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. This place is wonderful, since you will be on the coast but you will see in front of you a lot of snowy mountains in winter.
And finally, we also want to recommend Lakes Tekapo and Pukaki. Two large lakes that are near Mount Cook, on the South Island of New Zealand. You will be able to contemplate the turquoise blue of the waters between the meadows and mountains that surround them. You can take the opportunity to do the Christchuch road route, known as the Southern Heritage Route, in which you will also see Peel Forest, the town of Geraldine and Mount Cook or Aoraki.
To finish, as we want you to enjoy accommodations that allow you to rest and are luxurious, we want to recommend two lodges that we fell in love with since we met them.
First of all, we would love to take you to Huka Lodge, a place where you will feel at peace from the moment you enter its gardens. Without a doubt, it is the best place to rest on your vacations, and make a retreat with the world and nature, without forgetting to take care of yourself.
