As part of a painstaking restoration, the old features have been carefully preserved: wooden beams above and more wood underfoot, lime-plastered walls and tidy nooks and crannies, while just the right amount of colour, texture and style has been added to bring this luxury accommodation in the heart of Palma back to life, Majorca.
The history of the building dates back to December 12, 1764, when it is documented for the first time in a notarial register. It was originally the home of Joan Antoni Artigues, a notable advisor to King Carlos III, and stood as a symbol of Palma’s prosperous bourgeoisie. It was designed to accommodate the needs of family life as well as those of professional matters. It features casas mayores (spacious living rooms), studios (offices adjacent to the lobby), a carport (garage for carriages) and an elegant courtyard, a hallmark of the city’s architectural tradition dating back to the Middle Ages.
The interior design subtly references the Mallorcan and Italian heritage of the building, maintaining a bit of the patina and imperfections of the past, combined with modern design touches and a mix of bespoke antique and contemporary furniture.
